I have been reading through the Psalms again. As I think about and meditate upon God’s Word
to us in the Psalms, I find encouragement, comfort, wisdom and direction. I am beginning with Psalm 23 because of its
familiarity. Many of us can recite it by
memory. We are God’s sheep. He is our Shepherd. He is with us in the valleys and on the
mountain tops of our lives. I can see
the well known picture of Jesus holding a little lamb with other little lambs
at His side. I see Him holding us and
especially holding our Elisa and Carrie in His arms. Martin Luther Chapel installed stained glass
windows in our Marathon
Lutheran Church
last year. Richie and I donated a window
in the memory of our children who have already gone on to be with our savior,
our Shepherd, Jesus Christ.
In John 10:27 Jesus tells us that His sheep know His voice
and follow Him. He leads us into the
paths of righteousness. God gave us His
Son, Jesus, our Shepherd. Christ gave us
His Holy Spirit to walk with us through this life into the promise of
eternity. “Surely goodness and mercy
shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the
Lord forever.”
